LANDKUNST ((( ARCHITECTURES OF THE POSSIBLE

This architecture is inspired by the strawballs and the sawmills which are part of the thoré's valley's landscape.
It's built in an "in between" space, on a slope where not so many people go to, between a road, a path and a military field.
It proposes another way to experience the site and the landscape : inviting people to stop here, a place where they usually don't go or just go throw.
It has been built on a place where the box makes a nutural arch, a shape which can remind us the one of the cave, situated at the beginning of the limestone plateau.

It's a space to experience : feel free to take time to inhabit it !

Do we need to build walls around us to be able to feel free, and ourselves ?
Can we make spaces, micro architectures, open spaces, without any functions, except the one to propose a space full of possibility ? A space where we can link ourselves to the deeper inner inside of ourselves, and, as the same time, really be part of the world, without any separation ; at the present time ?
It's around these questions that Charlotte Louen and Julie Chaumette made an "architecture of the possible" in Best (a small dutch town), during an art residency in a LANDKUNST festival. Landkunst, art and land.
Inspiring themselves from the residency place (a farm), people linving in there, and its history, they had to make a work of art. The "architecture of the possible" project, or (((, was born.
They had the wish to link this project with the places where they were coming from : Remagen, in Germany and Caucalières, in France, in order to open this experience and offer what could be the beginning of a "map of opened architectures". To do so, they invited Friedreich Louen (forest sudent) and Pierrick Lacord (artist) to work with them on the Remagen's and Caucalières' projects.

How to let emerge the intuition of life ?
How a work could touch the volatil part — the core of the human beeing ?

The form of this gate was inspired by the sunken roads of the region - it is the same, but turned around. Fragmentation was as important in the making process as it is in the work. By using the different parts of a gate along a stretched distance, the time of passage becomes longer than usual movement through an entrance would take. Maybe the experience of present time appears changed to the visitor.

The field doesn't seem to be the right place : too much far from everything : in a way, a closed place.
Looking for something open.

Last evening at De Hagelaar : tomorrow, we are going back to France and Germany !

Keep working there : 2 other architectures of the possible in each of our place, responding to the one here.
There, we'll work with two other people : Friedrich Louen in Remagen, and Pierrick Lacord in Caucalières.
We'll let you know for the making process and the openings there !

This 3D flying sketch above the cornfield refers to two buildings in the area by its dimensions and building materials : a wooden shed in a cornfield 200 meters from here and a greenhouse at De Hagelaar. Observing and improvising have been the most important ways of acting during realization. The process of making was to be as open to life as the resulting work itself. The displacement of the floor (2 meters higher than usually) puts the building in another space, and maybe you will experience another sense of time there.

The artists Julie Chaumette and Charlotte Louen aimed to leave it as a sketch, like something drawn in a sheet's corner, a structure built very spontaneously in three days, with the life around, and where the most important part is to be lived by the viewers.

The work is one of three realized in different places. The two others are being made in Remagen (D) and Caucalières (F), the places where the artists come from. Invited by the artists to work together, Friedrich Louen (D) and Pierrick Lacord (F) have propsed an architecture in their area based on the idea of an open space devoted to life.
An edition of the three projects will be published, presenting the research of two weeks on the architecture of the possible.

You're welcome to ascend the platform.
Parents should hold their children's hand, and only two people can be upstairs at the same time in order to have a well experience of the space.

Visiting at own risk.
